Caring for Your New Stone Benchtop
Congratulations on your beautiful new stone surface! With the right care, it will continue to look stunning for years to come. To help you get started, we provide a specially formulated cleaning solution after installation that is safe for your benchtop. If you run out, no problem, you can easily purchase more directly from us.
Here's a guide to keeping each type of surface looking its best:
Porcelain Surfaces
Porcelain benchtops are known for being durable and low maintenance. For day-to-day cleaning, simply use a soft cloth or sponge dampened with water and a ph-neutral soap. This gentle method is more than enough to remove most grime and fingerprints.
For more stubborn marks such as burnt-on residue from cooking, apply warm water to the area and let it sit briefly to soften any build-up. Then wipe it clean with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish or cause dull spots.
Engineered Stone
Engineered stone surfaces are easy to maintain with regular cleaning. Use a mild detergent in warm water and wipe the surface with a soft damp cloth. For best results, finish by gently buffing the benchtop with a clean microfibre cloth to avoid streaks or watermarks.
It's a good idea to avoid bleach, strong solvents, or oil-based cleaners, as these can degrade the resin content in the stone over time. If a spill occurs, especially from coffee, wine, or citrus, clean it up promptly to prevent staining or dullness.
Natural Stone
Natural stone surfaces such as granite and marble offer a unique, elegant aesthetic—and with proper care, they’ll retain their beauty for decades. Clean them using a gentle stone cleaner, pH-neutral soap, or mild dishwashing liquid mixed with warm water.
Avoid highly concentrated cleaning agents. Too much soap can actually leave a film or streaks. Use a soft cloth or sponge, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a clean towel or microfibre cloth. Sealing your natural stone regularly (every 6 to 24 months depending on the type) is essential for long-term protection and easier cleaning.
Quick Tips for All Stone Types:
Wipe spills promptly to avoid potential staining or etching.
Never use harsh or abrasive cleaners like ammonia, bleach, vinegar, or scrubbing powders.
Use coasters, trivets, and cutting boards to protect the surface from heat and scratching.
Avoid sitting or standing on your benchtop, while strong, stone surfaces aren’t designed to support concentrated weight.
With the right care, your stone benchtop will stay looking showroom-fresh and ready for everyday life.
